This is how some feel about Northern Virginia.


#2 is the main reason.Germans by and large are the rudest people I have ever encountered.


I mean, what are you doing to piss off these Germans into being rude to you?

Most of the Germans I've encountered are very friendly and nice. A few have been very reserved, and I have no problem with reserved people. I also don't confuse a reserved attitude with rudeness.

We do in our Bethesda neighborhood. It’s how you meet your neighbors! When I moved in 25 years ago, the older people did it and I thought it was a bit strange, having moved from DC, but now I make it a point to say hello to the young couples moving in and it’s really a nice feeling to make new acquaintances in a place that you frequent all the time.

Pp and I agree. Native NYers are not rude, just direct and assertive.

Y’all need to move south. We moved from NY to upstate SC last year and could not be happier. People can be passive aggressive but not rude here. Life is slower. People are chatty. No one honks despite bad traffic (seriously). It’s a better life! Im fatter from all the good bbq but my blood pressure is lower!

I don’t get your German reference. I grew up in a small midwestern town where most people are of German descent and people are friendly and say hello to strangers they pass on the sidewalk. They rarely honk their car horns. People don’t cut in line. Neighbors know each other and help each other out.

People in MD — gross over generalization, I know — are politely giving you your space. If you ever bother to exert yourself and offer appropriate greetings, most of the time, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
