It's funny because all those things can be pursued together and the crime bill was killed by the republican congress/biden, tool.
That "crime bill" enabled crime fool.
No it didn't. That was what the republicans and fox news jammed down your throat. It raised some sentences and right sized others to what typical punishments were from judges.
The crime bill was a distraction. It really didn’t matter and wasn’t going to matter. The problem is the lack of prosecution and sentencing at all, particularly for juveniles.

DC is worse at nights and weekends.
+1, DH and I lived in DC for 5 years and then migrated out to VA. Now we literally only set foot in DC to go to work, where we park in our secure buildings. We used to have occasional date nights in DC after work, but we don’t anymore because it’s not worth it. It’s really sad.
I live and work in DC. I've never been robbed, never had my car broken into and have never had my car stolen. Lots of us here thank you. I go out at night all the time. I NEVER step foot in VA. Never. Not worth it. Please, there are people like you. I'm way happier in DC.
Oh, totally believable!
Actually it is. There are thousands upon thousands of us.
You have to have a pretty terrible understanding of statistics not to believe that there are thousands of people in the District who have never encountered crime. I can't comment on not going into Virginia though...
So… do you not care at all about the people who do? Our neighbor’s son was murdered this week. Does he not matter?

Huge overreaction.
No, it’s just my personal comfort level. YMMV, but I am not alone in my assessment of DC and my conclusion that my discomfort with being out in DC at night makes it so planning a date night in the city isn’t worth it. I don’t begrudge those that have a different risk tolerance, but I’m not going to be gaslit into thinking DC is some shining safe utopia and I’m just paranoid.
NP and there’s a wide gap between shining safe utopia and I only set foot in Dc to walk from the garage to my office building. You can go to dinner in DC and get back in your car by 7:30 to drive home. If you are worried about it being dark then only do it in the summer. You are a bit paranoid though.
