I can’t be the only person here who knows him. Total liberal myself, but he is a very pleasant, low-key human.
I don't know him, but he's obviously smarter than the average conservative.

That's a pretty reductionist dismissal of Kristol, son of conservative thinker Irving Kristol, and a long-time establishment conservative in his own right.
Conservatism has truly come unmoored from any kind of philosophical or rational underpinnings. It is now purely reactive, capable only of destruction and not creation.
And to give credit where credit is due, his mother (Gertrude Himmelfarb) was a prominent intellectual in her own right.
