+1. You are not a covert narcissistic mother and good for you.

I wouldn’t bc there are other compliments that are more truthful for her.

Striking is unusual. Very pale with dark hair and eyes are often striking to me also so it’s not a race thing.

I have two daughters and I’d say one is objectively prettier maybe but my other daughter gets a lot of attention bc she’s stroking due to her natural platinum blonde hair. She also has a very small yet curvy frame. It’s just unusual.

I don't make a habit of judging other kids looks. Least alone in front of my kids. What a weird thing to set in her mind, that other parents too are looking at homecoming pictures not commenting on hairstyles or dresses, but teens physical appearances. Have you not got the memo that teens can over compare themselves and go through waves of insecurity?? Now dd is wondering if you or Amy other parents think she is 'striking'?

If you're not just trolling that is.

Anonymous wrote:DD is showing me pics of homecoming. One pic is of a dark skinned and light eyed girl who is beautiful in an unexpected way. I said, “She’s striking!” DD asked me if she is striking. DD is a pretty girl (imo) but striking, to me, is a rarer kind of beauty.

How would you have answered?

HONEY! You are GORGEOUS! Look at those __________!

Find several different adjectives to honor her characteristics.

This. And then remember not to comment on other people's appearances.

Now stop commenting on people's appearance so much, unless that's your daughter's best source of value to the world.

I don’t think you understand how “striking beauty” is rare. You don’t know what this kid looks like and since striking beauty is rare, most kids are not striking.

Wow. Big assumption.
