I've never thought about this as a sticking point. We are pretty evenly split on who goes grocery shopping, even both of us sometimes. Whoever is available starts putting the stuff away. If someone has to run to the bathroom or grab a phone call the other does most of it.

I guess groceries shopping/putting away is not a chore I mind so I've never considered keeping score.

Oh, I am the wife and I can tell you that we have had sex 5 times in the past 6 weeks. I care much more about my husband's laziness than I do about how many times we have sex together (love my vibrator).

I feel for the PP earlier in the thread who said her DH could "damn well" put things away since she does so much. What anger over trivial chores. I admit I do get peeved at dishes piling up (that's another recent thread here....) but wouldn't let it fester into resentment. And we work it out. If I wanted DH or DD to do put all the groceries away, I'd tell them so. Done.


I've told H directly to do more around the house and have given specific examples. He simply refuses to do anything approaching half of the work. He believes a house can be completely filthy and messy, laundry does not need to be done unless we are all out of clean clothes, and bills don't need to be paid (if not automated) until the third "past due notice" comes. Just a lazy slob.

I grocery shop and put away. I don't let anyone put things away because some things I need to hide so they don't get eaten right away.

Neither of us wants to give up time with the children, and he sure ain't walking away with 50% of the marital assets that I worked so hard to earn and invest. That's the answer.

Yes, and even though emptying the dishwasher takes 7 minutes, he asks me which half I'd like to do. Face it, some people are really that lazy.

If the non-shopper happens to be around when the shopper gets home, we will unload the car and put everything away together. If one person is in a hurry or needs to do something else, the other person finishes putting away, regardless of whether that person was the one shopping or not. If the non-shopper isn’t around, the shopper puts everything away.

I’ve honestly never thought of this as something that needs to be assigned, we both just do it.
