We love our public elementary but the middle school we are zoned for has a lot of problems so have been starting to think about options for middle and high school.

I’d look for k-8 Catholic schools near you. We transferred from public to a k-8 catholic for 7-8th grade and both our kids got into multiple Catholic high schools. The k-8 Catholics do a good job of prepping the kids to get into Catholic high schools. Plus, the k-8s are generally a positive nurturing environment with small class sizes where the kids have individual relationships with the teachers and administrators.
I disagree. Seems like a waste of money to spend about $50k or so on Catholic middle school just to get into GC, which is a good but not necessarily highly selective school. I know two of our neighborhood public middle school kids got in. The HSPT weighs heavily on admissions chances but you can just take a prep course for that.

Anonymous wrote:McPS are aweful. We decided to send our kids to private school after many issues with MCPS. Our daughter who was "straight A" honor roll etc... was deemed a year and half behind when she entered private school. She had to work harder to catch up and do well to get into good counsel. Currently in all honors and pre-Ap classes freshman year. Looked at statics MCPS 225 "brightest students in HS" earned around $3 million in college scholarships. GC graduating class of around 275 students earned 47.5 million I'm scholarships. Friends who had gone to GC said their kids when they went to college were so far prepared, and going in as "sophomores". To me this says it all. Public schools are not as good. My youngest daughter started elementary private school after her math class and science classes were being taught by homeroom teachers putting in a DVD for kids to learn... private schools are so much superior than public schools.

We went to the Open House today. It.is.not.that.great.
Lol. What didn't impress you?
The vibe.
The dancers.
Translation: too diverse.
DP: It was very diverse (which didn’t bother me). But the hyper sexual dance routines were a bit much for a Sunday morning at a catholic school open house. I think the band was awesome and the dancers were an unnecessary distraction.
exactly, can't we just have the white cheerleaders and poms.
Here is their dance program.

They also have pom https://www.olgchs.org/poms
and cheerleaders https://www.olgchs.org/cheerleading
DP. Wow, are you intimating that white dancers and cheerleaders always have wholesome dance routines and dancers or cheerleaders who are POC always do hypersexualized dance routines? You need to get your head out of your butt.
Can you not understand that someone could find a dance routine a bit much regardless of who is doing the dancing?
No im saying the poster saw POC dancing and sexualized them like a perv and they would not do that to volleyball players or poms, who are generally white. or maybe they sexualize them too but either way, it’s disgusting to go to an open house and sexualized teenage girls.
And by the way, the good counsel is one of the few schools that have poms, cheerleaders, and dancers. Lots of great opportunities for young women.

I am actually a fan of GC and considering it for our DC. But your assumption about the PP is unfair. Not everything is about race.
