Yeah I vaguely remember that.![]()
I remember thinking “yeah, that’s pretty much exactly what I expect from that idiot police chief Charles Ramsey”.

Short answer: No, there cannot.
Longer answer: Why is it a given that our threat levels just went up? Do we have an essentially unguarded land border with territory controlled by Hamas?
Hamas has issued threatening statements against allies of Israel. In my mind, a threatening statement is a threat.
My family and I spend hours each week in a synagogue in D.C., and I am entirely unconcerned that Hamas is going to attack us here, no matter what kind of nonsense they say in the press or on social media.
What about some run of the mill nutjob? Nah, that’s never happened.
I don't think some sort of sweeping crime emergency action will make that less likely. (And my synagogue dues have also gone up a lot since the Pittsburgh shooting to pay for additional security.) Do I worry about someone attacking us while we're praying or going to school there? Yes, the thought crosses my mind pretty much every time I enter the building, though usually only fleetingly.
But OP seems to be drawing a pretty direct line from the attacks this weekend to the need to do something about crime in D.C., which to me just doesn't make any sense at all.

Hamas said they would target Americans if America intervened militarily. We are already sending weaponry
They said "direct intervention." No one has any idea what that means. Depending on how the situation goes, I suspect it means whatever they want it to mean.

I think Democrats are blind to the border issue. How many know that there have been an unprecedented amount of Syrian males of fighting age entering the country in the past week through the Arizona border?

Your neighborhoods are not being bombed, your women are not being raped in mass, your children are not being kidnapped and no one is beheading your grandparents.
Seek help OP and leave the District.

Even though it sounds extreme on surface, it would be significantly beneficial for the district.
So you’re advocating using the Israeli attack as a reason to strip Americans of their constitutional rights?
