I just bought a new car- and I was interested in the Rav4 or the Highlander but both were 6-8k over MSRP so I got a Lexus because it was less expensive, had a better warranty and better financing.

I bought a 2023 Volvo C40 Electric about a month ago and it was 10 percent off MSRP of 62,000, plus an additional 7500$ off for electric car lease incentive if we leased. Plus another 500$ for being a healthcare professional, and an additional 500$ off to make it no down payment. So it was about 48k i think? cheaper than buying when we figured out the yearly cost of a car, plus the electric technology will be much farther along in 3 years and we would lose money on selling a used electric car with low range in 7-8 years.

Depends on the model. Toyota Hybrids are selling 5-10K over MSRP. Crazuñy.

MSRP: $82,500 (no markup)
Discount's: -$5,500
Total OTD: $81,230

So you can get deals under MSRP

I paid less than that for a Porsche SUV last year with no markup and a small discount (but from a dealer in PA, not the DMV)!

I recently bought a Subaru, my fourth one, and I knew what the dealer had in inventory and I called and said I’d buy one the next day all in including tax for $2k off the SRP on the specific vehicle. He said ok. I should have asked for $4k off. But, they are really great on doing dumb things for me like resetting the clock and other stuff and not charging me. So they made decent money with no effort or headaches.

We bought a Honda HRV for our kid in August at MSRP. We starting out looking at used cars but used car prices were insane too. At least with new you’ve got a warranty.
