Hampshire College is a drug infested playground for lost souls from wealthy families.

Ignore the boasts about grads going on to masters programs in the humanities as these are open to almost anyone with a degree and a healthy bank account.

If your kid would be comfortable and excited about spending time in an ashram in India, then Hampshire College might be a match.

I have a niece there. Just a brilliant young person and so sweet, but she was truly troubled in high school (drugs, self-harming, school refusal). I visited once, and got the general impression of a lot of political performativeness (is that a word?), rampant drugs, and very little structure.

Hampshire has turned out to be wonderful for her. Forward momentum again after three or four years of being in a really scary place. She's thinking of graduate school now, and her parents are exhaling finally.

Hampshire is a very challenging college. Mostly because you have to be extremely disciplined as it’s a self directed curriculum. Meaning that you must be motivated enough to complete your courses on your own and have the papers that are due on time. At the completion of the courses you must rigorously pass the tests both written and orally without being led by the hand throughout the semester.

Hampshire Graduates go on to successfully obtain Graduate Degrees and PhD’s at high percentage rate.
My daughter who graduated from Hampshire received her Masters from Columbia and her Doctorate from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN

My Gratefull dead loving father suggested I attend here. Glad I didn't. It's a little on the extreme end and the education doesn't look that great. The coolest thing about it was the campus that has the layout of a summer camp. Lots of acid and mushrooms.
