This. My future MIL bought me a bottle of perfume I had my eye on. She had clearly asked my now DH what I would like, and I appreciated the thought. It wasn’t expensive - just considerate.

Yes, give a gift. Will make her feel good that you thought of her!
It is not awkward if she doesn’t get you a gift that your DS brings - you are the elders & set the gift giving protocol. Does not need to be lavish, just something to say you think of her & are glad she is part of the family, even if she can’t be present. DC will appreciate the gesture as well.

+1. Yes. If you’re thinking about it then why not? Just get her a scarf or a box of chocolates as another PP said.

I’d send back a small gift for her personally and then perhaps something for them jointly to enjoy - a gift card, gadget, or game
