Why are people so rigid?

It’s a modernized classical strings concert. He’s been to regular classical concerts and loved them, so I think he will enjoy this one if he stays awake.

Ugh. I don't know why none of the PPs asked what the event was. OP, there are some events that are great for adults only. Rather, other patrons will be eternally grateful if you do not bring along an overtired kid will be crying, unduly loud, and/or obnoxious. I wouldn't take my small child to a late night event knowing that they would be cranky and tired particularly if it were one where small kids were not usually present. I get that he might like classical music but it's not a kid event. Moreover, it's an event that priorities audience silence.

IDK, if it'd been a loud sporting event, rock concert or anything else where you cannot hear kids screaming/crying, maybe I'd say go for it but here it's one of those where I cannot figure out why parents don't consider other patrons. Not every outing is made for kids.

Well that's because you're a grumpy old adult who hates fun. Like another PP, my kid went to Hamilton when he was 7 and was up WAY past his bedtime. It was possibly the highlight of his life so far. He even got up and went to school on time the next morning. Rode that high for weeks

Some kids would handle this with no issue, others would be a mess. My 2nd grader is one of the "would be a mess" and I wouldn't spend that type of money to make both of us grumpy. You should know by now how flexible your kid is. Also, if they are tired will they sleep in? Mine won't, he wakes earlier with later bedtimes. And when you're at the event with DC be happy or will they be over stimulated and whiny?

There's no right answer here, it's just a matter of weighing your options and seeing if there is more pro than con. That will differ for everyone.
