Here's the thing. This school has 4,000 students. It's huge. Even if they have 1 bathroom open that's still crazy logistically. Think about a stadium only having one bathroom open. Bodily functions should not be something a teen should have to worry about in highschool. I'm really so annoyed by this.

ACPS has tons of money. They chose to prioritize central office salaries and junkets over students and teachers.
Back in December staff claimed at a School Board meeting that the $54 million in Covid funds had been spent or was earmarked. It wasn't. Months later ACPS was asking for input on how the millions should be spent. Can't have it both ways.
The bolded is so true. Maybe ACPS could do its favorite thing and hire a consultant on how waste/positions/expenses could be reduced at central office.

Look at the jail-like products/services that public schools have added over the past 40 years…
- Armed police officers inside schools (SROs)
- banned “inappropriate” books
- secured doors for classroom, bathroom, entrance/exits
- weapons detection/security screening for students/visitors

LCPS poster again. Our school claims to do this (the one near the office that’s not that convenient to the main academic area) but my DD frequently reports it’s “closing for cleaning” in the middle of the school day and she has to wander around looking for an unlocked bathroom. It’s outrageous and the principal was totally unapologetic when I brought it up.

I recognize this is a serious topic for students and their parents.
I was thinking if our civics teacher made us debate this topic when I was in High school many many years ago and these same comments were made, I would have laughed then just as I laugh now.

I'm a middle school teacher in a different county. We once had bathroom monitors due to the vaping, bulling, vandalism, and sexual acts happening in the bathrooms. Parents complained that their children felt uncomfortable with adults watching them in the bathroom, so those positions were removed.

+1. Did anyone else get the message about the vandalism in the restrooms at GWMS? "You are receiving this message because your student requested to use the restroom today." Seriously?
What does that mean exactly? Parents are informed anytime their child asks to use the restroom?
This bathroom situation in ACPS is bordering on inhumane. It really is dehumanizing to have to justify taking care of basic toileting and bodily function needs. Are kids supposed to start going to school in diapers?
+1 I hope parents are calling and writing to every to complain. This is really crazy.
