So, no, I don't think adding a K-4 option will "ruin" BASIS DC.
No problem with BASIS opening k-4. But PRE-K?? Got a lot of questions about how they intend to run that.
Good news then. They aren't! Now you can worry about more important things like asteroids hitting earth or getting eaten by a killer whale.

it's all part of the spiel... they act like it shows how rigorous the education is. It doesn't. It shows how inappropriate the education is. These people shouldn't be getting tax dollars.

+1, what a ridiculous argument. So public school parents in DC should just be silent on all school issues that don't involve their specific school? Of course the introduction of a new charter will have an impact on both nearby DCPS and nearby charters (and has been explained, the proposed location is very close to not only two boundary DCPS schools, but a charter and an all-city DCPS). It's totally reasonable for parents to ask if that makes sense and to argue that the new charter could eat into the enrollment at those four other schools.
And yes, I think it's totally reasonable to ask if a BASIS elementary would serve kids in the city, regardless of whether you plan to send a kid there or the school will be in your neighborhood. I really do not think BASIS-style education lends itself to PK-5th, but especially early childhood education, where I think there needs to be a strong focus on socio-emotional issues.
Pp is talking about the parents not the school. You can ask as many questions as you want, but stop judging other parent’s decisions, because you are afraid that your school will be affected.

We build a sense of community by being on the same block. It doesn't matter that our kids are all at different schools.
