Is Woodson going to get renamed like Stuart, Lee, Lanier, and Mosby Woods? Woodson was a former FCPS superintendent and supposedly not the most progressive figure of his era, but he wasn’t a Confederate soldier.
Another day, another Moms for Liberty troll post.

I guess the argument would be that he oversaw a period of major expansion in FCPS, and that’s what they honored him for, not his views on integration. Also, that the school has had that name for 60+ years so now it’s just associated with the community, not the person.
Is there a particular replacement name in mind or would they just go with something inane like “Mosaic”?

Please show me how renaming Lee to Lewis has improved the school.
Please show me how renaming Mosby Woods to Mosaic has improved the school.

+1. No one knows anything about the person behind the school name, so there's no need to change it. No one thinks about this unless they are bored and looking for something to be offended about. No one walks into that school or drives by it and feels offended.
On the other hand, there will be plenty of cons to renaming.

All of these changes are an improvement to counteract the racist and segregationist intent in naming them after Confederate war figures in in 1959, 1958, and 1963 respectively.
Millions of dollars spent could have gone a long way to help kids instead of virtue signaling. No one thought about who the schools were named after--they could have removed all the references to those people. And, Mosby Woods was named after a neighborhood.

Great find, thank you for posting. Perfectly relevant timing as his statements on desegregation translate seamlessly if we replace "desegregation" with "boundary changes." Goes to show how boundary changes are the modern-day equivalent of desegregation.
"Desegregation, instead of helping Negro children, is proving and will continue, at least for sometime, to prove hurtful to both Negroes and whites because (1) widespread public support of the public school is being lost, (2) political support is becoming much more difficult, (3) financial support of those most able to pay is being lost with their opposition to being taxed for public schools."

As a transplant, I always assumed Woodson HS was named after president Woodrow Wilson, combining his first and last name into one single name.
WOODrow + wilSON = woodson.
Now I feel silly
