What grade? My child is only a sophomore, and says he has not felt peer pressure to do drugs at all (although we have other issues with ACPS). Is it something that happens later?

We moved to FCPS 10 years ago and then moved to private 2 years after FCPS. She’s been in private since and we could not be happier with the education she has received so far.

I taught in ACPS for ten years before leaving.

I support parents doing what is best for their children but I also encourage more parents to speak out for more transparency and accountability.

High schooler is doing very well. Found a sport that is loved. Taking a tech class and AP classes. Neurotypical. Neurodivergent special needs ES child also thriving. But! Prepared to start private school for middle school for IEP child. High schooler will love being a Titan for the rest of life. Fortunately high schooler is open and honest about peer pressure of drugs. Also have a very strong faith community.

Run, don't walk. I have always felt that my child is relatively physically safe, but ACPS is still a complete s**t show. My child has no science teacher and for weeks, I have been trying to get basic answers on what is going to happen - this is at the high school level.


Exact smae thing is happeing all over FCPS at the HS level. Stop pretending it's only ACPS.


Does FCPS refuse to even acknowledge your email saying that your child has ASD and needs to have some idea what to expect? Sent to multiple counselors and administrators? Like not even to say, "we've received your email, and are so sorry, but can't tell you anything now?"

Moved from Alexandria to Arlington at Middle school - zero regrets. It wasn’t perfect but it was massively better.

Spread out over how many schools? Over how many high schools?

How on earth can they meet accreditation standards and graduation requirements when some students aren’t even being taught core subjects? Practically speaking, how is your child being taught and graded in that class? Is there just a long-term sub or are they sitting in the library doing their own thing? I’m sorry, that is incredibly frustrating! I remember a whole section of my daughter’s grade in middle school (at GW) had no PE teacher for almost an entire year and they just sat in the gym.


There is a large and growing teacher shortage. Unfortunately from what I am seeing as an admin in other districts, this isn’t just an ACPS problem (though acps does have its share of problems).
