There are a billion TikTok's dedicated towards wearing makeup and caring for skin. MS girls know more than I'll ever know. The young teen girls I know (daughters of friends) have excellent make up application skills and are not overly done. They could teach me.

I have boys and am still struggling with their deodorant application skills. Someone needs to make TikTok's about that.

What is the age cut off in your school district? Ours is that you must be 5 by September 1.

I meant first grade. I forgot about kinder. I think we're all saying the same thing, that most kids in 8th grade are 13, turning 14. PP is the one that thinks that her 13 year old going into HS is the norm. I have a friend whose one child was grade skipped, and was 13 when she started HS, but that's nor the norm.

She probably is one of the oldest in her grade, but if the cutoff is say October 1, it is not be out of the ordinary for someone to be 13 but turning 14 shortly after the start of 8th grade. I’m a late November birthday and was always one of the youngest (cutoff was December 31), but under the current cutoff rules I would have had to wait a year and then would have been one of the oldest.

Seriously? My May birthday kid who was not redshirted will turn 14 at the end of 8th grade. Any summer/fall kid who was redshirted or just missed the deadline will be almost 14 or 14 at the beginning of 8th grade.

Are you sure no one wore makeup in High School in the 80's? It didn't look that way on Neighbors and Home and Away!!

Apparently my husband got some comments from friends after I posted my 6th and 8th graders' first day of school photos in which you can see both their belly buttons (our school district did away with its dress code a few years ago since it was such a double standard). I just take an anthropological point of view . . . painting our faces, piercing our bodies, tattoos, whether breasts or belly buttons are OK in public are not . . . these are all just matters of time and geography. There's nothing inherently wrong or adult or sexy about these things; those things are in the eye of the beholder.

Now of course, we talk about how creepy people may make unwanted comments or advances, but that is never the fault of the recipient. So they know to say, "Back off, creep, I'm 11," or whatever. But thankfully nothing like this has happened yet.

So yeah, my kids have been wearing makeup as long as they'd like. They don't desire to wear anything over the top, just a little lip gloss and mascara. I don't see why it has to be a big deal.

I’d let her. But the eyeliner I’d be on the fence about. It depends on application. It could be something she wears on special occasions but not to school maybe. Also depends if she is making it look like cosplay makeup or doing it subtly. If it is subtle, I may be ok with wearing to school. If it is harsh/winged etc. I may say no for school

Mine wore way too much makeup in 8th grade. 9th grade she wore less, and 10th grade only mascara, and not everyday. She’s starting 11th and I guess she’ll wear even less makeup. I guess the novelty wears off?

This isn’t the hill I would die on. It washes off.

I have an 8th grader. Last year, she started curling her lashes, using mascara, and eyeliner. This year, she has added concealer to it. She has good skin, so she doesn't want to do more, but she has friends and acquaintances that wear a full face (acne scars, birth marks), and do it well.
