You can keep your number regardless of the phone type or phone carrier. You just have it ported over.
you have to have the account number to do that and some companies make it really hard to find that. I found out the hard way a few years back and had to change my number as a result.

I've had the same cell number for over 20 years, back to my first little Nokia.

Nice for you. But don't assume that everyone who does this is "weird" and has "a lot of drama." Sometimes drama gets pushed on you when you don't want it, PP. Clearly you've never had a vindictive or stalkerish ex, or a mentally ill relative with zero boundaries, or had your identity stolen. Or both. So don't jump in and judge; you don't always know why someone changes numbers, and the reason might be one they never asked for or wanted at all.

I've had both.

Again, if this has repeatedly happened to you and you've needed to change your phone number more than once.. YOU are the common denominator, and you are the drama llama.

It's the ones who claim others are dramatic who are usually the most toxically dramatic themselves.

You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried.

This. I have a coworker who changes her number frequently. My direct dial is one digit off from hers and I've gotten messages left on my work phone from creditors looking for her. I didn't even know creditors could contact your job, but the threatening message said she needed to contact them asap to avoid garnishment.
