Yeah speak for yourself. My 80-something year old white parents have gotten way more liberal as they got older. Especially around social issues. Same for their siblings. None of them cares about things having to do with sex, which Republicans think is an issue they can win on. Or rather I should say, they don't think the government has any business being the morality police like the GOP thinks it should be. Whether that's regarding LGBTQ, abortion, etc. They also are much more aware of racial injustices than when we were younger and will talk a lot more about what it was like growing up in the 1940s and 1950s with regard to racism and bigotry.

And I'm still as liberal as they come at age 58.

Sharing anecdotes in a thread about trends across the population demonstrates a lack of critical thinking ability.

Um. The parties will continually modify their coalitions / priorities to be competitive. It’s not like the Rs have stayed true to their 1950s positions, and vice versa. The parties will always be competitive. Big losses in a cycle should lead to changes. I mean - duh.

Young people who are registered to vote, vote at same levels as Gen X & Millennials. The issue is fewer are registered. Why? Well some is disinterest but many states don’t allow you to register until 2 months before you turn 18. Who remembers that? There’s a push to get kids pre-registered in HS as part of civic engagement.

In what aspects? It's hard to compare people from different eras on how conservative or liberal they are since society is so different. It would be like saying someone in 2023 is far left of someone in 1923 because he approves of women wearing pants. In 1923, that would have been an extremely progressive view. Today, even most right-wing Republicans are good with it. Even in the 30 years since Bill Clinton was President, society has changed so much. For example, when Clinton passed the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy about gays in the military, Republicans were in an uproar! Now, it is so outdated and criticized. But for that time it was progressive. In that same era, FMLA was passed. Again, Rs were completely against it. Now, it's mainstream. So where is Biden to the very far left of B. Clinton? Biden is actually a pretty moderate Democrat.

Gen Xer here and I haven’t found this to be true. The GOP isn’t the party of fiscal responsibility anymore. And Gen Xers and millennials are parents and there are a whole lot of issues that the GOP done mess up (abortion, climate change banning books)

There’s no meat in that Nate Cohn yellow journalism piece. Where are the quotes? Where’s the proof? Where are the statistics? The Roper Center website yields nothing.

I think some of them are falling in the hype cycle. They laid their hopes on Democrats and their emotions soared, then they realized that things more a lot more slowly than they'd like and that campaign churn is a mess, political sausage making is a mess and so on, and ended in the trough of disillusionment. But as they get through that, many will realize that Republicans are still worse.
