There are kids on rosters of the top college teams that have no business being there from a soccer perspective. They are good students, good kids and have parents that worked it out for them. Do these kids end up being surprised when they never play because the parent never told them the deal? Or do they know this going in and are fine with it? Never touching the field is tough on a kid no matter how great the school is...but mom and dad get some good pics in the uniform from media day and blast it all over social media.
So true.

Anonymous wrote:Sad to see adults complaining about who is deserving and who is not for league awards. Can't we just be happy for the kids that were selected and celebrate them. Are there other kids who are "more deserving"? Maybe, but no reason to take away from the accomplishment of the kids that were recognized. This same behavior around recognition extends to work environments later on in life and is so sad. And no, I am not connected in any way to any of the kids selected. Worse, if those complaining are having this same conversation with the kids not selected, that is horrible role model behavior. It creates infighting, etc. as the kids will follow the behavior of their parents. Just be happy for other's success when it happens. Keep working hard and yours will come too (in soccer or in life).

Spot on.
It also sounds like networking (parents) and nepotism (coaches/friends/admin staff) will always have a seat at the youth level table.
You mean in life. You're not just describing youth sports here.

I'm curious because the ECNL-RL lists came out today and DD's team had 3 players selected. Two of them are absolutely deserving of selection because they're outstanding players. The third player, however, is definitely in the bottom 25% of the team. How does that happen on a post-season recognition list?!?
Because ir's mostly favoritism versus deserved.

Oh, and I was told that it is the coaches who decide. What? You think they all get together and talk about who’s parents take them out to dinner or give gifts, therefore they DD gets nominated? Coo Coo.

Give us an example of a player that should not have made it or one that should have? It's an anonymous board, go for it?
The Union 07s. The Loudoun 07s.
