So true.

Just look at the incoming Georgetown roster

This same behavior around recognition extends to work environments later on in life and is so sad. And no, I am not connected in any way to any of the kids selected. Worse, if those complaining are having this same conversation with the kids not selected, that is horrible role model behavior. It creates infighting, etc. as the kids will follow the behavior of their parents. Just be happy for other's success when it happens. So celebrate kids who get “selected” for reasons such as their parent being a coach/administrator within the club, while much better players don’t get recognized?

For Boys U19 last year, clearly the most difficult player to deal with in the Mid-Atlantic was Isaiah Chisholm of Beach FC. He scored 4 goals in a half in a 5-2 game. He’s now logging minutes for the #2 team in the country (Kentucky) and spent time with the USYNT. I have no relation to him or Beach, but for him to be nowhere on that list, completely invalidates the list. Don’t put together a list, unless there is some level of objectivity to it.

Spot on.

It also sounds like networking (parents) and nepotism (coaches/friends/admin staff) will always have a seat at the youth level table.

You mean in life. You're not just describing youth sports here.

Whatever you want to believe, believe. I don’t, but that is my experience, not yours. And even if I believed it, I would never try to persuade my kids that is true. It is an excuse for both kids and adults to stop trying. And that, more than whatever machinations you see, will guarantee failure. Striving for excellence is its own reward. And you may think that is a cliche, but there is no cliche more tired today than people claiming that a system is rigged. Now get off the boards and repay your student loans.

Two of them are absolutely deserving of selection because they're outstanding players. The third player, however, is definitely in the bottom 25% of the team. How does that happen on a post-season recognition list?!?

Because ir's mostly favoritism versus deserved.

Well, like I said, I don't think anybody would remotely disagree with 2 of the 3 players selected from our team. It's that the 3rd player that leaves me scratching my head. There are at least 4 and maybe even 5 players on our team who are more deserving of that kind of recognition. But maybe it really is just individual team coaches nominating their "favorite" players. Although our coach definitely doesn't *appear* to have any favorites on the team and seems to treat everybody equally so I don't really know what to think.

Oh, and I was told that it is the coaches who decide. What? You think they all get together and talk about who’s parents take them out to dinner or give gifts, therefore they DD gets nominated? Coo Coo.

The bold above is exactly how it works.

The Union 07s. The Loudoun 07s.

Imagine my surprise that it’s an upset Loudoun parent…
