Anonymous wrote:We hired a nanny to work for us through the end of the year until our baby goes to daycare at our office.

Nanny worked for us for a few weeks and just decided to quit for another family. We had a contract with all terms spelled out - $30/hour, 45 hours/week, all federal holidays + 4 floating leave days to use by end of year. We had a really good relationship with nanny, didn’t ask her to do anything unrelated to the nanny. If we came home from work early, we would let her leave early and still pay for her full hours.

Wtf do we do? I’m just tempted to lie to prospective nannies and dump them at the end of the year. Will they all leave us in a bind?

Spouse just returned to work and we have no back-up care. We both have demanding jobs.

4.5 months?! You will be lucky to get someone for $50/hr.!

Nanny chiming in. She's in the wrong for quitting after signing a contract but I'm getting the feeling she needed the $$ and so this may have been a fill in til she found a more long term position.

Hope you can find someone else. The bonus idea sounds great actually. Good luck!

You’ll already pay her holiday bonus in December for $1500 or a week’s salary. So I agree with others to offer her a big bonus such as $5000 total and/or help her find something and if she doesn’t find a good family then you will keep her until March 2024. A good nanny is hard to find so if they are really good they won’t take your offer unless you have more security for them.

Careful, Nanny. I hear this prospective employer thinks it’s ok to lie to you.

Anonymous wrote:The other benefit of the house manager offer is that you get something for that extra money. A bonus just leaves with her. Up to you if it’s worth the extra cash to have a few months of increased sanity. I know I would have appreciated a clean house, folded laundry, raked leaves, etc., in those early days.

Plus the baby will start getting sick frequently in first months at daycare.

We did nothing egregious.

We can see that nanny is on Care.com in recent hours. We have a premium account and it shows the last time she was logged onto the website. When she told us it showed her as being on her account in the last hour.

Really crappy tbh. I mean, I have to leave a scathing review, right?

NP. Dear Lord you must have been a terrible, terrible boss. The lack of self-awareness in these posts is off the charts.

Leave a terrible review if you want but know a lot of nannies these days are familiar with defamation law, and given your posts here, I suspect your truth is far from reality.

Nope, not a terrible boss. We’ve actually never had a conflict with the nanny. She’s only been with us for a few weeks and now she said she’s leaving.

It’s left us in a total lurch.

You didn't have a long term contract.

Did you try to negotiate before she left?

This is a risk of outspurcing parenthood.

Call White House and pay the going rate.

It's just this nanny. Don't take it out on others. I assume there is a shortage of nannies and she simply got a better offer. It is what it is.
I would never leave promptly and I'm not even a nanny nor do I save lives.

If the nanny is on care, it probably means she quit before finding a new job, or else why would she be on the website? Sounds like op isn’t a great emoloyer.
