This! Super obsessed with my dog and love the stuffing out of him but if I had to save one of my kids or the dog from a fire, I would obviously choose my human child.

But man is the dog cute. And he never talks back!

Are you sure? Lots of people have tried to rescue their dogs from dangerous situations and ended up dying for them. Do you think they had that conviction in mind beforehand? Or do you really think that if you took your dog for a walk and let the dog go out on an icy pond and the dog fell through, your love wouldn’t spur you to action and an attempt to rescue your dog? Or would you just stand there nonchalantly watching your dog struggle, drowning and dying?


Not PP, but I would fly right into action for my kid--run across the ice, jump in if I had to. No second thoughts. I'd try to help my dog, but there would be more thought to it, i.e. how can I do this safely? I might be slower to act. That's the difference.

I would donate my kidney, liver or any body part to keep my child alive. I wouldn't do it for my dog though. Especially because if my dog died, I could simply go out and buy another with cold hard cash which I can't do for a child.

I love(d) both, but always knew that my dog probably wouldn't live past 15 when she'd be an old lady, while if my kids died at 15 it would be a tragic young death.

I love my child differently than I do/have my dogs. They all have a special place in my heart for very different reasons, but there is no comparing a child to a pet. I never thought of my dog as my "furkid" or any kind of child substitute before I had my child, either.
