What is the harborside like? That's the only option for our family of 5 to stay at. I am seeing reviews that it is run down.

Last year, my kids, age 10, 12, 16 LOVED Atlantis in the Bahamas. They were amazed at the vast waterpark there. I too loved the half mile long lazy river and other activities.

Call it what you want but it’s fun and the kids will love it. Disney cruises, especially Concierge level, are glorious. The Christmas cruises are especially magical.

I can tell you’ve never tried one and that’s okay. My family loves them.

What is the weather like on castaway cay during this time of year?

Also 30k on a winter break is insane.

I'd skip Patagonia. Even if it's in similar time zone, it's a long, long haul with not much to do, unless the family enjoys roughing it for 10 days.

Also skip Vietnam and Cambodia. If this is first trip to Asia, go to Tokyo instead. There will be so much to do for everyone. Up until the New Year Eve, the hotels are pretty affordable.

Foe something interesting and memorable with kids that ages, South America would be my top choice—Ecuador/Galápagos or Argentina/Patagonia (Buenos Aires is wonderful and Argentina on its own a great trip). Probably the last thing I would choose to spend 30K on, but to each their own.

Turks & Caicos or Cayman Islands. A family of 5, we rent a nice beachfront 2 bedroom suite/condo for a week around Christmas for about $15k including airfare.

What kind of things do your kids like? Hiking? Museums? Shows? Hanging out? Games activities with other kids?

We also did this last winter. It wasn’t my idea but it’s nice. Concierge level has a nice lounge with great snacks and private deck. The shows are phenomenal. And the VIP tours at disney are great if your family likes rides. You can do dozens of rides in a day with no waiting.

We also did Costa Rica another year and that was a lot of fun. We did an eco-hotel near Manuel Antonio and another in the cloud forest—they areanged transportation.

For a week’s vacation, I would not go to Asia or Africa. It’s just too far. Spain or London maybe. Maybe South America because you would t have the time change but it can be really hot there over winter break.
