Some VT majors are "restricted" (e.g., engineering or business), meaning there is a limit on how many students can be in the program and, thus, how many may transfer into it.

As the other posted noted, if not engineering, she's a shoo-in. If targeting engineering she should do AP Calc and AP Physics BC sr year to make sure she's competitive. Her grades are great but not so high to be affected by VT's yield protection.

If she weren't applying for engineering, I say she'd be a shoo-in. But as you know, engineering is the most competitive major at VT so no way of telling. But now that ED is gone, it doesn't matter -- just have her apply EA and see what happens. Also, her being female will give her a slight advantage according to VT's published accepted rates per gender.

To clarify, a non-binding early plan is called "Early Action" (EA), not ED.

Virginia Tech is offering EA.

In the last few years early decision application numbers have been trending up with about the same amount accepted. So lower acceptance rate than EA (but you also had some less qualified students apply hoping the ED gave them a bump) You definitely don’t get the same admissions boost at VT as other ED school that accept many more sbd fill their class with ED. At VT it’s really early action that fills the class anyway. Regular decision is for open spots. That being said a high stats kid from fcps who applied ED would have a better chance or a kid who fit a need that often went unfilled at VT (unpopular major, demographics, race, gender, etc). My child was deferred ED bad accepted EA.
