Seriously, MoCo is now a trash heap. Even Bethesda is now a drug infested den slinging dope. I really think only about 10-20% of the population is actually productive, doesn't commit crime, and is keeping the county alive. What happens when they leave? Driving around MoCo the other day was just sad. So many beggars everywhere. People in parking lots selling sugar cane and coconuts while leaving trash and discarded waste everywhere. So many ODs in MCPS. Now bodies are piling up in Bethesda. 👎

One of the richest counties in one of the richest countries in the world is a "trash heap"?

Have you considered slithering back under the privliged-ass rock from whence you came and/or not being so poor MoCo is too trash cheap for you?

Not that poster but we are also one of the most educated counties in the nation. So how did we allow the quality of life to degrade so much over the past 20 years? We have brains and money. But apparently not much common sense.

A lot of it comes down to who is elected. The people elected tend to have more extreme left views than the general population, and tend to be from Takoma Park/Silver Spring area. Not a lot of representation from Damascus or Germantown other than the required location-specific Council positions.

Why do they get elected? Because we don't have open primaries, then whoever wins the primary for the Democrats becomes the winner in the general. But a lot of people don't vote in primaries, especially in an off-year (non presidential). To win in the primary you just need to court a few fringe groups who vote in heavy numbers to win. Elrich won the primary with 55,504 votes, ahead of more moderate Blair by 32 votes. In a county of 1 million people and 678,000 registered voters.

Look, I voted for David Blair both times as well but I fail to see how he could have prevented this one guy from ODing in a park in Bethesda.

And you don’t need open primaries, you need ranked choice voting.

We need something different. Because what’s happening now is not working. Between Mark, Ehrlich, and the council it’s just too homogenous of a group. We need different people with different ideas. We need less yes people and more diverse thought I’ve always said it. It’s never good to have a single party rule.

I agree that Mark & Ehrlich are to blame. Also Suzie.

False premise.

+1000. What supposedly gave Bethesda such a better quality of life 20 years ago?

my quality of life has risen over the last 20yrs thanks to all the development in Moco. Bethesda is fantastic city. In theory, you would never need to head into DC if you didn't want to. 20 years ago it was definitely quieter, but there wasn't much going on. I still prefer old bethesda vs bethesda row

and just wait until it is one of their kids or a friend's kid that we are reading about but they all believe, nope, not my kid.

With the ODs at BCC and WJ within the past year, I think everyone knows this now.

they still deny it, you should hear people talk, oh that kid wasn't raised properly, that kid ran with the wrong crowd, if they weren't under so much pressure, they are off mentally etc etc.

NP. I do hate that these threads always devolve into socially or politically motivated finger pointing. Neither "ODs happen because of the Democrats!" nor "What about West Virginia!" either 1) represent what's actually going on in the country with overdoses or 2) seem like they come from a place of actual concern for people who are dying. It's all just point scoring.

People reassuring themselves that this won't happen to them.

I'm sorry, PP. I wish you and your child the best.

Whatever "Mark, Ehrlich, and the council" are, a homogeneous group they aren't.

It's all Mayor Ehrlich's fault, if you ask me.

Visit Morgantown, WV if you want to see high and mentally ill people roaming the streets. I just saw a man using a dog to pull his wheelchair up a hill. Never seen that before.

I went around a corner and found a woman using the sidewalk as a lounge chair. She was conscious.

Poor dog! Those hills are no joke.
Are you the poster who lives near Krepps park?
