Theoretically, you’re supposed to wash your hands every time you change gloves, and change gloves every time you switch tasks because you can’t wash them.
Honestly they’re mostly theater.
If what you’re worried about is getting food borne illness, you would probably do better focusing on how the food was stored and prepared, and whether the employees have paid sick leave and whether they appear healthy.
Something I’ve learned from DCUM though is that a lot of you are deeply weird and irrational about “germs” and “dirt.”
+1. I generally think that people that are this neurotic about this stuff should just never eat out. They are so concerned about this stuff, but don't realize how stupid it is when you have NO idea how everything is being handled, prepared, and stored out of your sight. Honestly, if you are this germ phobic just eat at home. You have no idea of what goes on in the kitchen, and you really don't want to if this is how you feel......

If the individual washes their hands and the various equipment has been properly sanitized nothing untoward should occur. The idea that covering hands with plastic somehow creates a magic talisman against contagion is simply ridiculous. I do think money handling needs to be separated from food handling, and that food handlers need to keep their hands away from their bodies.

I worked at Subway back in HS in the 90s and we wore gloves back then.

Agree. I also see it at Starbucks a lot. They touch their faces or hair or ears (or, even worse, the scanner or money) and then instead of grabbing your cup by the body of the cup they palm the top of the cup and the fingers are right where you will be sipping from. Totally gross. I always use hand sanitizer then on the lid and sipping part of the cup.
Aw, man…..I am so damn glad I’m not the only one who notices these things.

Ha! This reminds me….
I was in Mexico City several years ago, which has incredible street food, as you may know. I had to keep telling myself to forget about the bare hands touching my tacos….over and over and over again.
Yes, everything was all delicious, and I did not get sick, thankfully.
Still, though…. I was a bit uncomfortable.
