I wish people would stop asking what these 3 teams do. They are obnoxious a-holes from top to bottom. Coaches and parents set a bad precedent It's not new - been going on for years. NVSL is too scared to do anything as well. Grow a set NVSL.
Calling kids and families obnoxious a-holes reflects worse on you than anyone else. Taking out your obvious resentment on kids just reveals your own lack of class or manners.
Anonymous wrote:Interesting read. We were Overlee members for years in the late 90 and early 2000s and had kids on the swim team. Decades later and they’re still the top of the heap? I’m honestly curious how that happens. Don’t you have to live in the neighborhood to join the pool? Do they recruit?
Back in our day, at least, literally everyone on the team lived in the neighborhood. We knew them all.
I never liked the swim team only because the meets were long and boring and the parents got on my nerves. I have a thing against rich white privilege even though my kids fit the stereotype. The kids had fun though, so I smiled and sucked it up.
I never sensed any more competitiveness at Overlee and the swim team than any other thing/activity in North Arlington more generally. I find it hard to believe that things are dramatically different in neighborhoods outside of Overlee. Maybe prolonged success breeds jealousy and contempt - like the Yankees or Notre Dame football? But in the end they are only neighborhood pools having silly summer swim meets with other neighborhoods with very little at stake. So it it really fair to say that Overlee parents suck and are super competitive if other parents from other neighborhoods themselves care so much about all of this bullshit that they’re starting threads about it? Isn’t that a case of pot calling kettle?

We belong to one of these pools and the swim team is awful. They’re basically teaching kids from the youngest ages to be rude and obnoxious. Funny thing is most of these kids will burn out because all the coaches and parents care about is winning now instead of long term development.
There are 102 teams in NVSL. 99 of them despise (and no Overlee, Chesterbrook, and Tuckahoe none of the 99 are "jealous" of you) 3 of them.
My kids swim on a team that has bumped around between division 10 and 13, and our team has literally no opinion at all about teams not in our division or B meet group. We certainly don't despise anyone.
+1
We are a lower division pool and have lots of friends at those pools. We have no problem with any of them at all.
Same with individuals , but dealing with groups of them at events like the ASR they become a different entity.

If I mentioned any of those 3, most of our swimmers and families wouldn’t know who they are. They don’t “despise” and they aren’t “jealous”. Those teams just aren’t on their radar.
