Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers (fun, light read)

Cloud Cuckoo Land

Remarkably Bright Creatures

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi (nothing like, but similar in feel to The Great Believers)

Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid

After Abel and Other Stories by Michal Lemberger

I really enjoyed Remarkably Bright Creatures. I just finished Saturday Night at the Lakeside Supper Club from J. Ryan Stradal. I liked it but enjoyed his other books more.

NP and I agree! I enjoyed a lot of the booked OP mentioned and this seems like a good fit.

I’m listening to The Five Star Weekend, by Elin Hilderbrand, on audio. It’s a perfect beach type book. Easy read but not completely vapid.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow is maybe the best book I’ve ever read. I’m a fan of many of those mentioned.

Hi! I’m back from my trip - it was a great trip and I wrote a trip review but it’s already not on the first page of the Travel board because I guess not many were interested haha.

On the trip, I read When We Believed in Mermaids and The People We Meet on Vacation. I liked both & gave both of those 3.5 stars on Goodreads.

Thanks again for the ideas! I’ll continue to read more of your suggestions even when I am not on vacation

If you’re interested in the Azores here is my report

I loved Demon Copperhead and Pachinko.
Recommending:
Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline
The Color of Water by James McBride (incredible true story about a white Jewish woman who passes as black … a beautiful and unforgettable story)
We are Water by Wally Lamb

If you want something with a southern Europe vibe, see if there's anything here: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/29/books/lisbon-portugal-books.html

Here are some books I liked that I think have the same vibe as titles on your list:

Counterfeit by Kirstin Chen
The Power by Naomi Alderman
Geraldine Brooks-- People of the Book and Horse
Who is Maud Dixon by Alexandra Andrews
The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty
A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman

Have you read Nothing To See Here?

How about Emily St John Mandel's more recent book Sea of Tranquility? I liked it even more than I liked the book Station Eleven (I, a heathen, preferred the TV show).

Gonna throw out another oldie - have you read Convenience Store Woman?

If you do Audible, OP, I'd recommend listening to this one. Marin Ireland narrates it and she's one of my favorite narrators.

I also give this a vote. Excellent book and audiobook!

I just read Killers of a Certain Age on a similar vacation and it was perfect.
