Not sure that this is in Allen's area he has not even mentioned it. He loves opportunities to espose his overlook crime policies.

Yep - they made a "mistake" that cost a good man his life. Too late for "I'm sorry" or "I made a mistake." I have no doubt this isn't their first crime.
Clearly, their parents have no control over them considering the hour they were out. Time for tough love - find them. Lock them up. Try them as adults. Give them long sentences.
Enough.

Don't forget -- publish their names. Stop this shit where we withhold the names of the "children" who shoot someone in the face and kill them.

The rise in violence is nationwide and not defined by red/blue political districts. The fact that you want to exploit this crime for your own political gain is shameful. How can you act like you take crime seriously when you have such an unserious response? You are wasting our time with your political nonsense while the problem remains unaddressed.

Crime is down most places, not DC. Get your facts right.

Absolutely devastating!! And appalling.

I am sick of this being treated as business as usual in DC.

I think it’s 10 murders in 5 days for DC. There was an out of town visitor murdered near Catholic University and a 21 year old woman gunned down in SE.

I am convinced that is total BS. The shooter just claimed that to justify his crime to his accessories.
This guy was an immigrant working for a better life for his family and himself. Absolutely disgusting.

I don’t know if it’s BS, tragic either way. Really sad for victim and his family. Crimes like this and the 28 people shot at a party in Baltimore really make me think we’re a broken country. Not much respect for life.

WTF is wrong with this city?

DC Police and elected officials have been very slow to respond (and some haven't responded at all).

This guy survived the Taliban but then gets shot by kids in DC. They were trying to steal his car. This was a CARJACKING ATTEMPT turned deadly. It's awful, just awful. I hope they find these kids. I hope our elected officials start punishing these criminals (I don't care how old they are, if they are brandishing a gun they should be tried as adults) and move the needle in the other direction.

I didn't even bother to register where in DC this happened... surprised about the location... so close to the Hill. Sad.

It happened in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, amongst million dollar townhomes and 10 blocks from the U.S. Capitol. People need to wake up. This wasn't a targeted crime. It was random. I think a lot of us sleep a little easier when we think about how all the crime around us is targeted - but it's not. This is too much. DC Council, wake up. Your voters are frustrated. Neighbors are already talking about voting out certain council members.

The good voters of Capitol Hill gave us Mr. Charles Allen. His fingerprints are all over the crime crisis. Please do better in the next election.

Survived the Taliban to be killed by thugs in DC while trying to earn a living.

The reason to try them as adults is to save the at-risk kids who aren't yet committing crimes, but may do if they see no consequences. Also to allow the kids who want to thrive through education to do so, by removing the worst kids from their neighborhood.

We need to expand our ideas of racial equity to include the handling we'd want if it happened in our own neighborhoods. Minority communities need to get better protection of the law, as well as more equitable binding.
