These days college libraries have some dedicated quiet spaces or floors, but there are also spaces designated for normal-volume talking, group work, etc.

Libraries are far more comfortable than dorms.

Haha, very true! I always studied in the library and so did my now husband. We didn’t actually meet there, but that is where he asked me out for the first time and we spent a lot of time getting to know each other there while studying together.

I loved studying in the library in college. I still love it and use public libraries when I need a quiet place to read or write. But it’s not as good as my college library where I had all my favorite nooks and crannies mapped out.

I frequently studied at the library in undergrad and grad school. It was quiet and didn’t have distractions. I wouldn’t have been able to focus in my room with others around or a coffee shop.

As an adult, when my kids were little and loud I would often go to our local library on weekends to get caught up on work for a few hours. Same reasons, they had quiet rooms and I could escape for a little while without anyone knocking on a door or yelling my name.

I never did. Found them to be TOO quiet!

My daughter always did.

There were distractions in her room, including falling asleep on her bed.

It was also a function of the dining hall being close to the library, so I would head to the library after dinner. Once I started cooking at my apartment, I wanted to stay there instead of walking back to the library.

I studied at the library when I lived in a dorm because it was noisy and there were too many distractions. Once I moved to an apartment with a quiet roommate, I studied at the apartment.

Seemed like the flip side of noisy dorms, is someone always a sleep. Both my DCs started in triples, and the dynamic was fine, but someone sleeping in the room at any given moment, like 2pm was pretty standard. That doesn't conflict with studying necessarily, but somehow it's just more pleasant to leave.

Yes, I did a ton. However, I will tell you that I did not do in undergrad a million years ago, nor did my kids, who just graduated college. DS finally got into it junior year after I kept telling him to do it.
Most undergrads are completely ignorant about what an insane source library is for academic works online and how great studying there is.

All of my graduate school "pals" study/ studied at the library all the time, and we used/use the library to get academic works from around the world.
