I’m from Tucson and still have most of my family there. This summer is definitely worse. I think it would be okay if you just want to spend the day in some nice pools—I personally prefer pool temps in the high 80s anyway. And you could probably do some indoor museums (not sure about the Phoenix museums although I seem to remember a good Indian art museum). And of course you could go to movies and such. But I would not plan on doing anything at all outside like hiking or even the zoo. Also PP is right that it is monsoon season so expect heavy sudden downpours in the afternoon. The upside is that extremely nice resorts often have rooms for like $100-$200. So if you’re the type that just wants to hang out poolside at a resort and maybe do some shopping and have some good Mexican food, I think it would be fine.

I don't get all this fuss. I lived in Dubai for years. It was even hotter and often humid! I'd have no problems going to Phoenix in the summer. It can be a fun experience to feel the desert heat.

It's dry! I personally love the heat as long as it's dry.

I would not want to visit in this scorching heat. I have visited in May and October and it was not even then. Being out after 11 was unbearable and uncomfortable to hike.

I used to live in Phoenix, and I would choose to vacation there in the summer. Someone upthread said you can be outside until 11am and then again in the evening. It’s hot by 9 or 10. And it does cool off a bit more in the evening there than here, but it’s still not comfortable this time of year.

Although I’m not finding DC comfortable after about noon lately either.

Hiking is not “uncomfortable” in Phoenix in this heat. It’s dangerous. And the kids who live there aren’t hiking in the heat. But I assume OP understands not to do outdoor things when it’s hot.

Too hot. We went in July a few years ago and the pools were too warm for our kids to swim in.

As a resident of Tucson- I would say it will be too hot. Of course people that live there adapt because they have no choice. The drivers in Tucson are equally as terrible as Phoenix- fast and reckless. it’s the wild wild way after all. It’s a dry heat, but that sun is so so strong.

The tickets are cheap because it is a horrible time to go. It is the travel version of the clearance rack.

You do realize that there are many 6 and 9 year olds living there every day and there are no reports of mass incineration from the heat?

There are many 6 and 9 year olds living in the Sahara desert but I don’t think it would be a good idea to go there right now (for a number of different reasons).
