+1 he has had a long history of playing racist stereotypes. He was Apu for 27 years in The Simpsons.

I watched and my problems with it are:

1. The sound mixing and quality are terrible. I was constantly lowering the volume during the music and raising it for the mumbled dialogue. I have the closed captions on but it's just badly, badly mixed.

2. Joss (the main character) doesn't appear to have any internal life. She just moves through episode one and appears in different situtions. Is she mentally ill? Depressed? She seems quite smart, too smart for the silliness of her world, but we don't know what's going on in her head.

3. Are we supposed to believe she literally doesn't have a moment alone, that her entire existence is these handlers, consultants, etc.? This was basically boring, not fascinating.

What underage children are in The Idol? I dont see it. The main character is an adult in her 20s.

TBH, her acting was great in episode 1. She's supposed to be a Brittney Spears-type popstar with mental illness and controlled by a circle of snake-like managers/PR people. The story is engaging, its clear that there is a lot of backstory that will be revealed.

I actually think The Weeknd was pretty awful as an actor. I'm guessing he will become an abusive love interest/villain. Personally, I think he was miscast.
