This point about older generations is largely correct. But not even universally. Our fancy local country club blocked Jews like our family doctor, so my parents joined the YMCA outdoor pool instead. They were Episcopalian, as were a number of the other Y members.

There is nothing racist about white people commenting on the racist and problematic behavior of their own community. It’s being self-aware. If you have a problem with this, you should discover why. As for the other posts pointing out issues with other communities, start your own thread. This thread deals with WASPs.

OP here, yes I've experienced this too w/ the families of women I've dated. Asian family wanted their daughter dating an Asian guy not a white guy, Black family was the same. It's not limited to white people.

+1. I dated an Asian guy for a while and when his parents came to town he said he wasn't ready for me to meet them because it was a really big deal for his family. This is after he talked about us buying a house together.

Black and African American were what people used. I also don't genuinely think you could be married to her for 25 years and she'd still use the term because colored people was completely verboten for too many decades now.

Your story would have been a bit more plausible if you were talking about your mother in law. But even then it's a bit of a stretch.
