Easy for the family members who don't have big expenses currently - if your kids are done with college, etc. - feel free to treat the family to the beach vacation you enjoy. But don't expect other people to have the same idea of vacation as you, and if you include some of the family, you have to include all of the family - unless you want it known and noted how you really feel about those you exclude. This is especially true if those you intend to exclude have made significant sacrifices and/or contributions to your (own nuclear) family in the past.

10K for a long weekend???? Nope
+1. Plus “four nights” also means one of those days is sunk with waiting to get the key/having to rush straight into dinner, and then the other morning at the end is race through getting some BS checklist done. I cannot believe people consider that a “vacation” and pay that much for the non-pleasure.
We've done a week in OF for that amount, but no way I'd want to drive as far as OBX or HHI for a long weekend. Maybe Rehoboth. It's not about the price; it's about getting enough time to settle in and relax. And I would only book a house for the committed families, whether they are sharing the cost or we're paying for the whole thing.

We spend $10-12K on our summer vacation but I would sure as hell well not spend that for a week at an east coast beach/OBX. We have gone to much better places for 10+ days that included fun excursions for that price. Heck we even did Maui in 2021 for that price.

No more than that it’s can she afford it whether anyone joins and pays or not
I can afford to float 1/2 of it. Other 1/2 would be covered by those committed.
Why are people not committing - the date is too far away to decide now?
Too much money even if you pay for half?
Would rather do like a cruise or have different vacay style than you?

Thanks. I was able to find the same property by going directly to the management company for much less. The family members that committed (and the ones that keep asking to do the trip actually) want to pay their share for the place. As far as all fully decked out, I was referring to all new appliances/kitchens/ bathrooms, pool, hot tub, etc. Less worried about things like can openers.
