Backup cameras have reduced the number of such accidents now.

My dear friend experienced a failure of positional awareness while flying her small airplane, with her favorite young granddaughter as a passenger. In the dark of night she flew into the side of a mountain and ignited a major forest fire.

Plane crash, guess not freakish but rare. A high school boyfriends mother; the family fell apart and I think one of the brothers ODed a couple years later.

Friend's father was cleaning leaves out of the gutter and fell off the ladder. Friend witnessed the whole thing.

Friend's family went to visit a local dam (like Hoover Dam size.) An uncle leaned against a railing which wasn't secured properly and tumbled into the churning water below and drowned by the time they got to him.

I won't trust the fixtures at any tourist attractions since hearing this, even in the U.S. I'm not going to trust that someone has checked to make sure each bolt is secure.


I have a relative who nearly died at a scenic overlook because he leaned against a railing and fell hundreds of feet off a cliff.

I know a super healthy 35yo that had the same thing happen. She lived, but had s TBI and needed a full year recovery to learn to walk again and everything


My friend's father also died after a home gym accident. He lived alone and nobody found him for several hours after the fall.

Another friend died of a freak car accident where he hit a moose and it went through his windshield.

Ugh. This happened to the husband of the woman my dad dated in his later years. The man was working on his car in the driveway and it fell off the jacks and killed him. She was home at the time. She was a nurse and couldn’t save him. They had six kids, then early elementary to teens if I remember the story correctly. So sad.
