This is the time of year when I buy cashmere sweaters off eBay (the shockingly good prices are worth the 6 month wait to wear them), and I just picked up a men’s v-neck cashmere sweater that is so much better than any of the women’s sweaters that I’ve bought this year. Now that you mention it, I should just switch to men’s sweaters. Some look too obviously like men’s styles, but basic v- or crew-necks are usually more or less the same.

I've found a lot of decent quality clothes at Kohls, mostly for basics. They aren't great quality but if you hit certain items on sale, they are really affordable and hold up pretty well for the price paid. I don't have the same luck with similar stores (Costco, Target, Old Navy). I like Sonoma, Lauren Conrad, Simply Vera and Nine West brands there.

Not cheap by any stretch, but surprisingly good quality: Eileen Fisher, Ilana Kohn

Somewhat more affordable: Costco Kirkland branded items (tank tops that last forever, exercise clothes), Cos (hit or miss)

Hard to know what "inexpensive" is to you, or even what you mean by "wonderful".

The A New Day brand at target makes these thin-ribbed racerback tank tops that I believe are like $8.99 (or right around there). Are they as good quality as some of my favorite tank tops that cost much more, nope! The difference is particularly in the cut/fit. But they are by far the best of the "inexpensive" tank tops I have tried. They are soft, they hold up in the wash, the cut and shape are decent, and the color options (including some nice neutrals) are good. They are better than I would expect them to be for the price -- they are a good buy.

Very big or miss. Some of the lands end stuff is really well made but other is total crap. I just order stuff when they have the 40% off everything sales and then return what isn’t good to the store. They used to have great work pants that were better quality than brooks brothers but first they cut the lining and then the changed the material and now I think they don’t even sell them anymore.

YES!!!! I have to agree and I have Lululemon leggings as well. The Danskin ones from Costco are just as comfy if not better actually and they were about $14. Win!

I got some tank tops at Target that are amazing.

I hit a HH black T-shirt for $20 and it never faded, shrunk, or got out of shape.
