My 12 year old would love to play with his older cousins like this. I would stop dangerous behavior, but not splashing. its a private pool and she is not in the water

Regardless, as host you should have gone high and had a warmer response.

It is the place of everyone at a pool, public and private, to keep a casual eye on the kids. Everyone should tell the kids No running and to be mindful of horseplay in the water (OP should ban it but it's not clear when her pool rules are). And to not squirt or splash people wearing clothes.

Aren't you just so special? It is the lifeguard's responsibility , NOT YOURS! Busybodies like you are neither needed nor wanted. If you told my kid what to do, I would not hesitate to tell you to shove it.

Assuming she was sitting with other adults I might have tried to tried to relocate everyone so she doesn’t feel exiled but other than that I would not let her threaten to end the kids’ game. I’m sure her husband had had to reign her in before. I would not invite them back.

I have a feeling there were other factors at play and this incident was the straw that broke the camel's back.
There's more to it than just complaining about getting wet while sitting in the splash zone.

What's the backstop Op? Is she jealous of you? Did you spite over something un-related awhile back?
