I voted for Obama’s first term.

I thought Obama could improve race relations in this country.

First and last time crossing the aisle.

Late 40s female who has voted R in the past (pre-Trump but not since) but cannot envision doing so again. The Republicans I voted for in the past do not exist any more, or if they do they are now Ds. Both sides have crazy extremes but the space between the two is not evenly divided.

You have no clue how this works. Apprehensions are up because millions are flooding the border thanks to Biden's policies and rhetoric. They turn themselves in because they know they will be released into the country. That is essentially an open border.
And, let's not forget the 1.5 million got aways since Biden took office. The cartels make sure the border is flooded with migrants entering illegally to pull resources away from patrolling the border so they can bring in contraband.... criminals and drugs.
There is no international law that says we have to allow people to illegally enter our country.

Same here. I have voted for Dems in the past. I can't see doing it in the future ever. Way too far left on fiscal issues and cultural issues.
They call the Republicans extreme for wanting a 12 week limit on abortions, yet they want no limits at all. They are actually the extreme ones.
And some of the bills that were passed in the last Congress..... wanting to turn election decisions over to the federal govt? No thank you. The fed. govt. showed us during Covid why this should never happen.

I am a Democrat who consistently votes for the Democratic party.

While an 'acceptable opportunity' has not arisen where I have voted Republican, I can envision situations where I would do it in local/state races

For example, if I were living in Vermont, I would probably vote for Phil Scott as gov. Likewise, when Charlie Baker was gov of Mass, I probably would have voted for him.

In other words, in a scenario where I was comfortable there was a persuasive Dem buffer, I'd be open to voting for a pro-business, socially centrist republican.

However, I would not vote for a republican, even a centrist, in a scenario where I believed it would result in right wing control over policy to the expense of Dem voices.

I was a Republican for 20 years, but began distancing myself over the lies of the Bush administration. I would still vote for some Republicans in local elections but at this point, and especially after J6, have completely given up on Republicans and wouldn't vote for one under any circumstance. The only way would be for the GOP to completely reinvent itself with a completely fresh slate and return to principles, rather than being a party dominated by reactionary behavior and extremist ideologies, cutting away all of the obnoxious MAGA behavior, cutting away the conservative Christians and other things.

Lifelong Dem. Have even volunteered in plenty of D campaigns in the past. This year, I will likely vote R in local elections. Ds have swung too far left for me on certain issues and I'd like to get back to center as best we can.

At federal level, I would consider it if there was a centrist R, which is non-existent. I also vote gun violence prevention and abortion rights so no matter how abandoned I may feel by Dems, I have my core issues to consider.

Voted for one local Republican in my home state in 2006. It was sort of nonpartisan, the candidates were D vs. R but the real local issue I voted on was not really an ideologically partisan issue, it was a matter of competence.
