With regard to the three-tier carts, I bought a few from Amazon that fold flat which I think would be good for transporting to/from a dorm room. As a bonus, the only assembly is attaching the wheels.

DP, but my kid goes to school in Boston and fabric wall hangings aren’t allowed due to city fire codes.

DC made good use of Amazon and Target for (minimalist) decor and other needed items. I’d recommend a gift card to either.

Every girl I’ve ever seen at college has a use for those three tier rolling carts. They have cute ones at Container Store but cheaper and just as cute at IKEA.

DD went to a hippie school, so she liked those Indian bedspreads. She hung one on the ceiling over her hideous fluorescent light, and it looked nice. It softened the light. I gave her a floor lamp from Ikea, which she liked. She bought towels at Target. I've never heard of dormify. Not a single one of her friends had a headboard or matchy matchy stuff in her dorm room. A nice rug, a dustbuster if she doesn't have one is a good gift. My kids all used their dustbusters regularly because they are allergic to dust! My kids all had those three-drawer plastic mini-dressers from Target or WalMart they used as nightstands with a small lamp. My DD had a salt lamp from TJMaxx that she loved as a night light. She had lots of fairy lights. My boys had regular christmas lights hung all around their rooms. Why, I dunno. Maybe they though they looked festive? Posters, a small framed photo of a beloved pet or family. My DD hung over her bed a hideous "Home is Where the Love Is" (or some nauseating phrase like that) framed poster she bought at some home store that all her friends thought was funny.

Technically, yes, but it is coast to coast. It is 2774 miles, to be exact. Flying is the only reasonable course for us as both parents have full time jobs. Are you always this pedantic?

I don't know any kids with headboards. Seems lije serious overkill to me, and we're driveable. Pillows are all they need!

I also vote for fairy lights. Or school pennant. Or gift card to school store. Or, a rechargeable neon light.

Mine is into theatre, so I bought a playbill poster for her. Or any film poster (I found a cheap reprint of Clue on Amazon for mine), or favorite art poster (The Scream? J/k).
If you know the kid well enough, something like that might be an option.
