This is really weird, though.

Plaintiff could have presented both pieces, but they didn't. The Gaye family is dumb AND trying to steal other artists' music.

This is a pretty funny demonstration of re-using chord progression. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRwCxkN9/

Good -- the charge was BS

No, he’s the target of frivolous lawsuits.

I don't know anything about chord progressions, but I don't want to live in a world where this is considered theft. When I listen to each song, I get two completely different experiences.

It's interesting that the fashion/design industry can rip off designs left and right, but the music industry is arguing about these smaller details, even when the end product is completely different.

Guilty? It’s not a criminal trial.

Because it's a frequently used chord progression, PP. This absolutely cannot be used to demonstrate theft. The plaintiff should be made to pay all of Sheeran's incurred fees so they don't try that too often. They're not acting in good faith here.

Can you post links to other songs that sound similar to the Marvin Gaye song.

It is the basic chord progression used in learning to play guitar books- and the books actually say "you can build a song from these chords"

I watched a YouTube video of musicians that used the same chord progression, but none of those songs except for Sheeran’s sound like the Marvin Gaye song.

I think the verdict will be guilty depending on the demographic of the jurors.
