Running for US Senate from the council is fairly nuts in any normal world. It might work if there wasnt a deep bench but you are potentially talking about:

Angela Alsobrooks- the PG County exec, and possible Wes Moore endorsee

David Trone- sitting US Congressman

Johnny O- Baltimore County exec

Jamie Raskin- sitting US congressman, and fairly high profile after the Trump hearings.

Where is Jawando's lane to beat that field?

+1.

And this doesn’t even mention that he is to the left of anyone else in the field which may give him boosts from some quarters but isn’t going to help overall. People remember that MD is liberal/centrist Dem statewide and no one will want to risk losing this seat.

What’s Martin O’Malley doing these days? Would he get into this?

Jawando doesn’t represent the present or the future of Maryland IMO. Maryland is solidly Democratic but not progressive.

Jawando should have waited to see if Jamie was getting in— his base overlaps with Jamie’s too much and I think people would choose Jamie. Plus if Jamie did run he could try for the House seat, which would be a more reasonable jump from county council.

Of course not. He wouldn't run if that was the case. It's all about stroking his vanity

Eww. I can't believe he dared to do that. So many people know what a big hypocrite he is. Good Luck J!

Jawando would be embarrassed in a statewide race. No chance he'll be the nominee. Just look at the bill he recently proposed with Comrade Mink focused on making it *harder* for police to pull over criminals.

Is this purely because they are AA and Alsobrooks is a female?

Why would there be no place in the present or future of MD for Jamie Raskin? Because he's a white guy? That makes no sense.

The actual favorites will jump in- Alsobrooks, and David Trone.
I think Johnny O is probably waiting for the Dutch Ruppersberger house seat in a few years.
