Potomac’s volleyball was strong this year - varsity second behind GDS, and JV just won the ISL JV tournament yesterday.

GDS beat Flint Hill this year. Both programs are the best around. O’Connell is second.

GDS has been attracting better volleyball players for a few years. They currently have 4 Metro Travel players and players from Paramount, VA Elite, VA Juniors, and other local clubs. Their senior class is very strong this year, but they have a lot of underclass talent as well.

High School sports have a very short season. Do not pick a High School based on a sport your DD may or may not play in a year or two.

Lots of kids stop playing in High school or choose just to play for the club.

Are you having a laugh? Flint Hill is far and away the best HS in the region (public and private) and I don’t think have lost a set in the ISL in about 7 years. GDS is a clear second but after that, it all depends on how many club players they have in that year. Bullis were in the A (lower) division until this year and have a couple of decent club players but they got hammered by Flint Hill and, I believe lost to a couple other teams. Flint Hill dropped off this year for volleyball. Don’t know the details, but I’ve heard there was some kind of change in how the school was handling admissions and they are no longer able to prioritize applicants for sports so they haven’t been able to attract as much volleyball talent as in the past.

GDS went undefeated in the ISL regular season and are the favorites to win the ISL and DCSAA championships. Holy Cross volleyball is a little stronger than SJC, but I think Bishop O’Connell is probably the favorite to win the WCAC.

As other have noted, HS volleyball doesn’t mean much in terms of recruiting. Of course it’s fun to be on a better team, but good club volleyball is much higher level than any HS team in the area.

GDS and St. John's are convenient for upper NW DC and close-in Bethesda, but they are wildly different in terms of philosophy and school character.

Those are very different schools in very different locations. Is vball your main criteria?
