But this shooting was the impetus for the assault weapon ban and stricter controls of handguns. This shooting changed the United States and saved lives.

Said with such authority! The assault weapons band expired almost 19 years ago, in September 2004. Republicans have fought its return since then.

Horrific!! What a miracle that he survived a shot to the head. Although we don't usually open our door to strangers, can't imagine doing what the homeowner did.

If a black homeowner shot a white teen, I somehow don’t think we’d all be told to “wait” with our outrage. And before it’s even asked, yes I’d be equally upset if the races are reversed because I think shooting someone for ringing your doorbell is freaking psychopathic behavior.
