If your school doesn't have a magnet program or high SES and performing similarly to those schools, then it's a good school. Those high SES and magnet program schools will be higher performing because of the higher income parents -- to me this is not necessarily a sign of a good school: it's only a sign of a higher income school and more a reflection of the parents than the teaching or the students themselves.

Just pointing out that half of the 4th grade classes at CCES are not CES, and the school has a FARMS rate of 21%.

pp you are responding to. We have a similar farms rate. and actually we are far less white. anyhow, our mcap scores are similar across the board.
If a school without any special programs and isn't particularly high SES performs similarly what exactly is the point ?
I'm not questioning the need for enrichment - i'm just questioning the value/worth of these particular programs in achieving meaningful differences in outcomes.

NP. What school, and what are the average scores for the school for 5th for MCAP ELA, math, and subscores? Would be helpful to compare with the scores from the other thread for CCES.

I would not spend a whole lot of time using MCAP scores as a big data point. I heard recently that you have to use their toolbar of math symbols to input all of your work and that even if you arrive at the correct mathematical answer, if your equations don’t match up exactly as the system has it set, you do not get credit. I’m not sure if this is true or false but issues with formatting and auto grading could absolutely explain why so few students, who otherwise show proficiency in other tests, do so poorly on this one.
