How soon did they let you know? I have a fair amount of anxiety.

I had this too. The technician didn’t get good pictures. All was ok.

Reviving thread and hope OP is okay! For those of you who received callbacks, how soon after mammogram was the call? Specifically asking about Fairfax Radiology. I had a strange interaction with technician yesterday, and worried today.

No, just that it was an oval shaped mass on my left breast.

Oval shaped is good. Irregularly shaped is more indicative of cancer. Good luck. I hope everything is benign. But even if it is not, outcomes are very favorable. I went through treatment and am doing great.

They didn’t say whether it had irregular edges, which is what worries me. My doctor warned me that first-time mammograms have higher callbacks because there’s no baseline but I guess I was prepared more for “they need some better images” and not “there’s a mass”. So glad to hear you are doing well!

I have had lumps biopsied that had all the worst qualifiers - irregular, spiculated, hypoechoic, etc. Not malignant after biopsy though. If you had a gyn exam a couple weeks ago this is an even bigger sign to me it may be a small cyst that came up when your hormone cycle shifted. For all you know it’s happened a hundred times, but since this is your first mammogram it’s the first time you’ve known. I would be reassured it wasn’t palpated by your gyn .

Thank you so much, I appreciate this. Really good to hear your biopsies can came normal. Yes, of course I was starting to wonder whether maybe she missed it or wasn’t doing it throughly enough but she does them a gazillion times a week so I’m sure she would have done it effectively.

I am going back in a week. I don’t have a family history. Has anyone specifically been told they had a mass and it turned out to be something benign? I’m really scared

Yes - it was a fibrisdenoma.

Same! I’ve had two.

Thanks, this is helpful. I just can’t get over the “radiologist found a mass” - it’s hard for me not to think it will be bad.

It is hard and I’ve been down that path, but keep in mind, breasts are lumpy things anyway and hormones greatly affect the topography of that area. Lumps can come and go and many, MANY are harmless. I have had biopsies and my breasts are fibrocystic so lumps aren’t uncommon for me, so I get the worry, but truly the vast majority are NOT breast cancer.

Thank you, this is a reassuring perspective. I also thought it was strange because I just had my annual gyn visit two weeks ago and my doctor did a thorough breast exam and didn’t mention anything. I guess it’s something she wasn’t able to feel?

Mass is a scary word but that’s what they call everything they need to take another look at - cysts, fibroadenomas, etc.
