Already mentioned that Strom Thurmand was a Democrat, who became Republican in 1964, year of the Civil Rights Act.
The post wasn't talking about Strom, but a different Senator who was feted by other Senators like Chris Dodd. 'There is no time in history that couldn't have used him, World War 2, the Civil War'.
Yes, that other senator, Byrd from WVA, disavowed his time as a klansman and help pass important civil rights legislation through the end of his careers - as a democrat. He didn't switch parties like the other southern dems, like thurmond.
Face it, the GOP today is the segregationalist party of the 1850-1950's...and for all of the manipulation the GOP takes - gerrymandering, voter suppression, running astrotruf third party candidates to dilute left votes (see Sinema and Jill Stein to name two) at the end of the day, the GOP will not be able to overcome this:
So, in actuality, switching parties may pay off over the next two years, but if the under 30 counteract the over 65 vote, then the Dems win easily for the next several cycles.

Your shtick is tired and boring. No one takes you seriously.

Good riddance.
Your post gives a clue as to why this may be happening.
When you demonize the opponent with false smears and hateful rhetoric and all the while embrace absolutely nutty positions on issues (abortion on demand with no restrictions, allowing biological males to compete against women, restricting speech, defunding the police, etc.), expect reasonable people to run away from you. Now, you might say that ALL Democrats don't embrace the positions listed - but how many Democrats have spoken out against them?

Yes, before the southern strategy and the major shift in the southern, racist block from the Dems to the GOP.
Abe Lincoln would be a democrat today.
Actually, every president but Trump would be a democrat today, alas.
Not so much. The party switchers understand that the Republican Party has achieved managed democracy. You can say people are furious about abortion and shootings and whatever, but it doesn’t matter if they don’t get to vote. Republican judges, money, and just strategic and tactical brilliance have outflanked the Dems at every turn.
When one side literally has the guns, the ammunition and the money, it doesn’t matter how many people they have on their side. They just need enough foot soldiers to use those guns. And Donald Trump has given us those foot soldiers.
The smart play is to become a Republican, and get on record now.
