The only reason I mention this is because it could be that something similar happened here and the owner is not just outright lying or accusing.
Either way, in your case I would still maintain that it was fine when you left. As others have said, it could have been the cleaners. There is no way to really know. Insurance should address it. Not you.
(In our case we had to pay for a new stove for our apartment and that really annoyed me at the time because landlords buy these cheap freaking appliances and then act outraged when they break with normal use. But that part is not relevant to your story!!)

As I said, I have had a glass top stove at home for years, it gets used hard, and never ever any issues even when I do not use it in ideal ways.
