We're 45. We use our china for holidays and certainly never would have bought it otherwise. It's a luxury, but it's nice to have.

The honeymoon registries didn't exist when we got married and that would have been nice, but we scraped together enough for a good time on our own.

I never thought I'd say the china, but that and a couple decorative pieces are things we'd never buy for ourselves even now that we can afford whatever we want. That probably makes it special.

Really? Because I really value the items I use every single day and am so thankful to my friends and family for giving us those. A vacation is just a vacation to me, but the other things are workhorses and contribute to our and our children's daily life. Such thoughtful and kind gifts!

PP here, I forgot our knives.

We got married in our late 20s and both were still using hand me down and IKEA everything, so we used our registry to get nice things that we knew would last a long time

Cash (always, also I am from a culture that gives cash gifts)
Everyday dishes (it's been 12 years and they are still going strong, I just wish we'd gone with plain white because Crate and Barrel discontinued our pattern)
Silverware
Nice wine and old fashioned glasses (I wish we'd thought ahead and asked for nice coupes but they weren't in fashion at the time)
Bar cabinet (we only put it on the registry so we could get the discount, but a group of my grad school friends went in on it together, it was a great gift)
Pots and pans
Vacuum cleaner (we got a really nice Miele from family members)

Vitamix - I use it at least 3x a week!

The Chiba gets used once a year….

A picnic blanket that folds up with a strap. IT’s water resistant on the underside too. Used it so much and would never have thought to buy one myself.

You don't remember your cousin's $35 contrbution every time you remember the trip.
