There's absolutely nothing wrong with becoming a grandma at 42. To the great-grandmother on this thread, I'm thrilled for you, and you are lucky to have a large family! People are so judgmental for no reason.

My kids are grown - oldest is 37 - but I don't have any grandkids yet. I wish it were different, but all I can do is be patient. I'm 59 & my DH is 63. When my mom was my age, she had 8 grandchildren already.

I turned 50 this year and became a grandma. I had my son at 24, he had his at 26. He is finished with grad school and bought a house so it’s all good

Well I’m 49 and my child who is most m likely to have kids ks 17. So I guess I hope not for at least 10 years or so when I’m 60 or older and she is out of college and settled.

55-60. My mom had me at 22 and i had kids at 34 and 38. She is barely 65 and in great shape and adores them, chases them ok bikes, has the stamina to keep up with them all day. My in-laws are a decade older and its harder for them with little kids so we see them but they are sitting and watch kids play visits as opposed to engaging with them.

Most of my cousins do not have kids, despite being in their late 30s, 40s and 50s. Much to the despair of their parents.

Maybe in your world. I got married at 18 and had my first at 19, my son got married at 20 and had his first at 22. Nothing inappropriate about it.

My mom became a grandmother at 52. When I was 52 I had kids in middle school. Seems really young to be a grandma, because it’s all relative to your experience.

. I know a lot of people in their 80s and they are living active lives not in nursing homes.

My mom was 51-she was 26 when she had me and I was 24 when I had my oldest child.

I'm 47 now and wouldn't mind being a grandma in the next few years.

If you’re willing to be a supportive enough grandparent that you can compel your kids to have kids sooner rather than later, convey that to them!

I think the ideal would be 58-62. Don't think we'll hit that though unless my kids have kids younger than we did. One set of my kids grandparents was closer to 60 and the other 66. The younger ones able to enjoy them more. The older ones were around 60 when the had their first and definitely closer to them. I think by the time you reach late 70s its harder especially if the grandkids are young ok if they are in late teens or twenties.

As for 42, that's probably the youngest age appropriate grandparent (21+11), more common to be closer to 50 (25+25) or 60 (30+30). I'm clise to 50 now and have friends with children in their 20s and grandbabies, others with kids in college, others like me with kids in middle and high school, a few with elementary age kids and a couple of men with toddlers. Everyones experience is different. Only one that I thought was too young is the teen mom whose daughter became a teen mom making her a grandma before she was 35

My big dream is to live long enough to meet all my great grands. My grandmother met all 3 of my kids before passing earlier this year and I’m so deeply grateful for that.
