big pass on Northwestern - DC did an overnight and two full days talking to students and attending classes. In her words, really wanted to luv it - but she said easily the most miserable kids she’s ever met - campus just had an unhappy vibe. could be great for others, not my DC

Why would the ranking of undergraduate school rankings be important when OP's kid doesn't want to study business, and at least one school on the list (NU) doesn't have an undergraduate business school?

Northwestern, hands down. And Evanston is a great college town. Tons of shops and restaurants in walking distance from campus.

According to the alternate ranking below (based on professor quality, diversity, student happiness), Northwestern (#2) and Vanderbilt (#13) are quite a bit stronger than Wash U (#90).

This is so funny to me as someone who has lived in Chicago. The North Shore (made up of like 6-7 suburbs, one of which is Evanston) is one of the richest areas in the entire country. Saw more old money there than Potomac!
Maybe 10 years ago perhaps, but not according to recent crime statistics.
