Anonymous wrote:I still don't understand this. We go to swim lessons next to TC Williams, or whatever the new name for that HS is, and there are always a ton of MD plates picking up kids there. I thought Maryland had better schools than Alexandria? I find it so bizarre

City of Alexandria schools are maxed out pass capacity because of all the kids coming in from DC and MD. This is done right out in the open, a few woman at work bragged about this living in MD sending their kids to Alexandria city public schools. I don't think Alexandria seems to care though since they do nothing about it.
Meh, it's more a myth than a thing.
BS I know of 12 families who do this.
Why? ACPS schools are terrible and unsafe. Why bother even if the schools in their area are terrible and unsafe?
No idea why but our ACPS elementary school is close to the WW bridge to Maryland and our drop-off/pick-up lines are full of Maryland license plates. It's definitely not a myth.
When I lived in both a small condo complex and large apartment tower in Alexandria, at least half the residents’ cars had Maryland or DC tags. That’s incredibly common here.
Automobile taxes are cheaper in Maryland.

Anonymous wrote:If you're a renter, wouldn't you do the reverse? Rent an apartment in FCPS where schools are better? Especially since some of the stronger schools in FCPS actually have some less expensive rental apartments within their boundaries?

I manage several people at work who live in MD and their kids use their grandparents' addresses in Del Ray or Old Town to go to ACPS. I can't for the life of me figure out why. My husband and I had no idea when we moved here 10 years ago all the issues with ACPS. We thought it was this quaint 1 HS, 2 MS environment. We should have just stayed in DC. We wanted a quick commute and a walkable neighborhood like DC.
They wanted to say the went to TC Williams when it was still named that.
Hilarious. True and hilarious.
